Joy Crookes

Born in 1998 in London’s Lambeth district, Joy Crookes grew up amid Bangladeshi and Irish influences that shape a world blending soul, R&B, pop, and touches of jazz. Based in South London, she began attracting attention in her teens with covers and early tracks online before releasing the EP Influence in 2017, marked by introspective writing and a firmly urban grounding. She followed in 2019 with the EPs Reminiscence and then Perception, which confirmed her taste for contemporary soul arrangements, hip‑hop‑leaning rhythms, and frequent use of brass and strings. On stage, Joy Crookes stands among the new generation of British singer‑songwriters, moving between London clubs and festival billings across the UK and Europe. Her debut album, Skin, released in 2021, deepens this blend of soul and orchestral pop, addressing themes of identity, family, life in London, and romantic relationships, and places Joy Crookes in an ongoing dialogue with the traditions of British soul and the sounds of the South Asian diaspora.
