Ravyn Lenae
Born in Chicago in 1999, Ravyn Lenae developed her songwriting between classical training at the Chicago High School for the Arts, church singing on the South Side and immersion in the local scene. She first made her mark with the EP Moon Shoes in 2015, reissued in 2016, which introduced a supple, subdued alternative R&B infused with neo‑soul, atmospheric pop and discreet electronic touches. Close to producer Monte Booker, Ravyn Lenae is part of the Zero Fatigue collective alongside Smino and helped fuel the rise of a generation of Chicago musicians blurring the lines between R&B, hip‑hop and contemporary soul. After Midnight Moonlight (2017) and Crush (2018)—the latter an EP made with Steve Lacy—she toured notably with Noname and later SZA, while appearing on numerous American projects. Her debut album Hypnos (2022) features, among others, Steve Lacy, Kaytranada, Smino, Fousheé and Mereba. With Bird’s Eye (2024), Ravyn Lenae further broadens her palette toward airier arrangements, where downtempo, guitar and reggae‑pop inflections support a light, precise and often melancholic voice.
