Empire Of The Sun

Australian electro-pop project formed in Sydney in 2007, Empire Of The Sun brings together singer and guitarist Luke Steele, formerly of The Sleepy Jackson, and producer Nick Littlemore, also known for his work with Pnau. The duo crafts highly melodic synthetic pop at the intersection of synth-pop, indie pop and dance, marked by processed vocals, immediate, catchy choruses and a pronounced taste for dreamlike atmospheres. The album “Walking on a Dream” (2008) established Empire Of The Sun internationally with a string of widely played singles; “Ice on the Dune” (2013) emphasized the project’s electronic and cinematic qualities. With “Two Vines” (2016) the band introduced more organic tones and arrangements inspired by 1970s pop, before returning in 2024 with “Ask That God,” extending their retro‑futurist universe. On stage, Empire Of The Sun relies on a strong visual element—costumes, theatrical staging and sci‑fi imagery—and has become a fixture on major festival circuits in Europe, North America and Australia.
