Snapped Ankles
Formed in east London in 2011, Snapped Ankles operate as an anonymous collective whose members perform on stage masked and dressed in forest‑inspired outfits, in a presentation that blends concert, performance and art rock. They first emerged in DIY nights and London warehouses, crafting improvisations from 1960s film footage reworked live, before crystallising a clearer language drawing on post‑punk, krautrock, electronica and punk. The band released its first track in 2012 and signed to The Leaf Label in 2017, the year of the EP The Best Light Is the Last Light and the debut album Come Play the Trees. With Stunning Luxury (2019), Snapped Ankles shifted their imagery from the woods to the city and its outskirts, producing material more directly engaged with urban life, gentrification and everyday tensions. Their discography also includes the live recording 21 Metres to Hebden Bridge (2020), Forest of Your Problems (2021) and Hard Times Furious Dancing (2025). Snapped Ankles employ motorik rhythms, repetitive basslines, angular guitars and electronic textures in a music that is physical, taut and often danceable — at once abrasive and rigorously structured.
