Goat

Originating from Sweden, Goat has been crafting a form of psychedelic rock since the early 2010s that blends elements of afrobeat, funk, folk, and so‑called world music, underpinned by an anonymous stage identity of masks and costumes. Presented as a collective rather than a fixed band, Goat relies on a core of musicians based notably in Gothenburg, while maintaining a narrative around the village of Korpilombolo, often cited as its origin in the project’s communications. The release of the album World Music in 2012 placed Goat on the international psych scene, with tracks built on distorted guitar riffs, prominent percussion, and often choral vocals. Commune in 2014 and then Requiem in 2016 deepened this blend of repetitive rock, krautrock influences, and motifs borrowed from various traditions, while tours in Europe and North America strengthened Goat’s live dimension, with concerts conceived as collective ceremonies. The band then issued various singles, EPs, and live recordings before compiling rarities and B‑sides on the 2021 collection Headsoup. With 2022’s Oh Death, Goat steered their writing toward a form more marked by psychedelic folk while retaining their extended rhythmic structures and percussive arrangements. Between studio and stage, Goat thus situates itself in a landscape where experimental rock, the psychedelic legacy of the 1970s, and references to multiple musical traditions intersect.
