Bodega
Born in Brooklyn as an offshoot of the Bodega Bay project, Bodega formed around Ben Hozie and Nikki Belfiglio before adopting its current name in the late 2010s. The band sits in an art-punk/post-punk vein that blends nervy indie rock, angular guitars, repetitive rhythmic patterns and vocal delivery often bordering on declamation. Bodega first emerged on New York’s DIY scene, with songs that, in a frank and frequently ironic manner, observe the mechanics of consumption, cultural habits and urban behaviour. Their first album under this name, Endless Scroll, was released in 2018, followed by the EP Shiny New Model in 2019 and Broken Equipment in 2022. In 2024 Bodega issued Our Brand Could Be Yr Life, a new version of a set of tracks originally recorded in 2015 during the Bodega Bay period. Across these releases the band has maintained a dry, taut aesthetic—between arty rock, minimalist tension and deliberately restrained melodies—working in a group format where collective dynamics remain central.
