Sleaford Mods
Anchored in Nottingham, England, the Sleaford Mods project began in the mid-2000s around singer‑lyricist Jason Williamson and took its current form when producer Andrew Fearn joined the duo in 2012. Sleaford Mods developed an abrasive blend of post‑punk, spoken word and minimal hip‑hop, built on repetitive rhythmic loops, simple bass lines and a spoken delivery with a strong regional accent. Williamson’s lyrics, frequently focused on precarious work, social tensions and everyday life in Britain’s provincial towns, give the group an identity closely tied to austerity‑era England. After several low‑profile releases, they drew attention with Austerity Dogs (2013) and followed up with Divide and Exit (2014) and English Tapas (2017), consolidating a regular presence on the UK and European independent scenes. Occasional collaborations, notably with The Prodigy and singer Billy Nomates, have accompanied this rise. Live, Sleaford Mods operate as a voice/programming duo without a traditional rock lineup, favouring a direct stage presence that highlights text and rhythm.
