Crack Cloud

Vancouver‑based Canadian collective Crack Cloud has, since the mid‑2010s, brought together musicians and visual artists from various Prairie cities and the West Coast. Built around a stable core and an expanded roster, the group has developed a post‑punk/art‑rock approach featuring angular guitars, prominent percussive rhythms, collective vocal parts and arrangements often reminiscent of film scores. After two self‑released EPs, collected in 2018 on the compilation “Crack Cloud,” the project grew into a multimedia ensemble combining music videos, video work and a community dimension rooted in harm‑reduction circles in Vancouver. The 2020 album “Pain Olympics” marked a significant step with longer compositions, pronounced use of choirs and songwriting that addresses addiction, family and social structures. “Tough Baby” (2022) continued this evolution toward a denser sound, adding keyboards, brass and spoken passages within songs built in successive blocks. Active on independent North American and European circuits, Crack Cloud sits within the contemporary post‑punk scene while maintaining a collective mode of operation in which rotating membership and collaborative practice directly shape its sonic and visual aesthetic.
