Joy Anonymous
Based in London, Joy Anonymous brings together Henry Counsell and Louis Curran in an electronic project nourished by house, UK garage, breakbeat, pop and a club culture conceived as much for live performance as for the dancefloor. Joy Anonymous attracted attention in the early 2020s with improvised outdoor performances on the South Bank during the pandemic, where the duo developed a direct way of playing—combining rave energy, sung hooks and highly mobile low-end rhythms. That experience in public spaces shaped Joy Anonymous’s identity, later extended into club formats, larger stages and appearances alongside artists such as Fred again.., Skrillex, The Blessed Madonna and Eliza Rose. Their writing mixes the momentum of British dance music with a more emotional approach, with tracks that alternate collective build-ups, rhythmic tension and more reserved moments. With Cult Classics (2023), Joy Anonymous continues along this path, assembling varied references on a record that moves between nocturnal euphoria, vocal house and textures drawn from London’s electronic scene.
