Born in Vienna, Austria, Felix Angyumanu Nyajo developed the project salute in the early 2010s with remixes and productions released online, before settling in England—first in Brighton, then in Manchester. The first buzz around salute came from his remixes of Aaliyah’s “Rock the Boat” and Sam Smith’s “Money on My Mind,” released while he was still a teenager. His music sits between house, UK garage, breakbeats and bass music, with songwriting informed by pop and R&B, taut rhythms and a strong melodic sense. After the EPs Lionheart and Fields in 2013, salute released Gold Rush in 2015 and My Heart in 2016. Between 2018 and 2019 the trilogy Condition I, Condition II and Condition III marked a more personal phase, followed by lyali in 2020, Ultra Pool in 2022 and Shield in 2023—the first project on which salute also presents his own voice. Along the way he has collaborated with Abra, contributed to Charli XCX’s “5 in the Morning,” and crossed paths with Sammy Virji, No Rome and George Daniel. In 2024 salute released the album True Magic on Ninja Tune, adopting a more upfront club aesthetic while remaining linked to warm, flexible forms of dance music deeply rooted in the British scene.
