Route 94
Born in Richmond, west London, Rowan Tyler Jones initially worked under the alias Dream, developing a fairly dark and direct dubstep foundation that emerged in the early 2010s. Between 2011 and 2012 he released several EPs under that name, including Come On (2011), I Am Dream (2011) and This Isn’t House (2012), while moving within the UK bass ecosystem and encountering producers such as Skream, Benga and Katy B. From 2012, Route 94 took over and signalled a shift toward house, deep house and tech house, with a more pared-back approach focused on grooves, basslines and vocals. Route 94 established this turn with Fly 4 Life (2013), then Misunderstood (2014), and continued with A Brand New Day (2016), Mind, Body & Soul (2017) and House & Pressure (2017). The track My Love, featuring Jess Glynne and released in 2014, accompanied this move to a broader audience without severing the club roots. At the same time, Route 94 produced remixes for Katy B, Skream, Storm Queen, MK and Becky Hill, and participated in production work for Benga and Katy B. Since then Route 94 has remained associated with a British house sound nourished by garage heritage, bass and club-oriented formats.
