Snail Mail
Emerging from Baltimore's DIY scenes, Snail Mail is the indie rock project of American singer and guitarist Lindsey Jordan, born in 1999 in Ellicott City, Maryland. Jordan learned guitar at a young age, began writing teenage songs and quickly performed in small local venues before circulating her early recordings under the name Snail Mail. The project developed with the EP Habit in 2016, which already featured melodic, restrained compositions centered on Jordan's clear voice and guitars with indie rock, emo and lo-fi accents. Snail Mail then attracted attention within the American indie network and signed to Matador Records, which released the debut album Lush in 2018, marked by introspective lyrics about relationships, coming of age and vulnerability. On stage Jordan is accompanied by a band that translates these tracks into a direct rock format; she has toured extensively across the United States and Europe, playing clubs, mid-size venues and festivals. With Valentine, released in 2021, Snail Mail deepened this blend of introspective ballads and more electric songs while expanding her writing toward a more assured pop sensibility, without abandoning the guitar aesthetic and personal perspective that have defined the project from the start.
