Widowspeak
Formed in Brooklyn in 2010, Widowspeak first emerged from the New York indie scene around Molly Hamilton, who had come from Tacoma, Washington, Michael Stasiak, and later guitarist Robert Earl Thomas, who with Hamilton became the project's enduring core. Widowspeak crafts a slow, stripped-down indie rock threaded with dream pop, folk rock and a subtle country tint—sober guitars, restrained rhythms and a voice often placed front and center without affectation. After a self-titled debut in 2011, the band followed with Almanac in 2013, recorded in the Hudson Valley with producer Kevin McMahon, and further honed its songwriting on All Yours (2015) and Expect the Best (2017). Widowspeak continued this trajectory with Plum (2020) and The Jacket (2022), consistently favoring quiet tension, oblique melodies and economical arrangements. Through tours and lineup changes the group shifted from a trio to a duo centered on Molly Hamilton and Robert Earl Thomas, while retaining a stable and immediately recognizable sonic identity.
