SASAMI

Born in Bronxville, New York, and based in Los Angeles, SASAMI, the stage name of Sasami Ashworth, operates between indie rock, singer‑songwriter‑style pop, country rock and passages marked by alternative metal and industrial. From a Zainichi family and trained in music from a young age—notably on the French horn—Sasami graduated from the Eastman School of Music in 2012 before working on orchestral arrangements for film, advertising and other artists, then teaching music in Los Angeles. She joined Cherry Glazerr in 2015 as a keyboardist and touring musician, leaving the band in early 2018 to launch her solo project. That same year she released her first tracks under her own name, followed by the album Sasami in 2019, where bright guitars, melodic tension and spare production intersect. With Squeeze (2022), Sasami hardened her sound by incorporating metal textures and more abrasive dynamics, without abandoning pop songwriting. In 2023 and 2024 she also toured as a guitarist and member of yeule’s live band. Her third album, Blood on the Silver Screen, was released in 2025.
