Ulrika Spacek
Based in London, Ulrika Spacek moves within an experimental rock sphere where noise, psychedelia and krautrock influences intersect. Formed in the mid-2010s around songwriter Rhys Edwards, the quintet has cultivated a dense, hypnotic, and repetitive sound defined by layered guitars, insistent rhythmic figures, and vocals often pushed to the back of the mix. The group first came to the fore with the 2016 album The Album Paranoia, which outlined an aesthetic melding art rock and shoegaze, followed in 2017 by Modern English Decoration, recorded largely in a domestic space converted into a studio. They followed up with the Suggestion EP in 2018, asserting a more fragmented and introspective writing approach, before returning in 2023 with Compact Trauma, a record of elongated structures marked by dynamic ruptures and a partly electronic palette while remaining firmly within a guitar-rock framework. Active across the British and European independent circuit, Ulrika Spacek is part of a network of venues and festivals where alternative rock, post-punk, and contemporary psychedelic music intersect, consolidating through touring an instantly recognisable sonic identity.
