Breaking Benjamin
Formed in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, in the late 1990s around singer-guitarist Benjamin Burnley and drummer Jeremy Hummel, Breaking Benjamin belongs to the American alternative rock movement, blending post-grunge and melodic metal. The band drew attention in the early 2000s with the album Saturate (2002), then honed a darker, more structured songwriting approach on We Are Not Alone (2004) and Phobia (2006), marked by heavy guitars, contrasting sung choruses, and introspective themes. Breaking Benjamin cemented this aesthetic on Dear Agony (2009), where Benjamin Burnley’s voice—central to the project’s identity—remains the guiding thread despite lineup changes. After a hiatus due to health issues and internal disputes, Breaking Benjamin resumed activity with a revamped lineup and released Dark Before Dawn (2015), followed by Ember (2018), extending a style that shifts between atmospheric ballads and more aggressive tracks. Frequently touring in North America and internationally, Breaking Benjamin has secured a lasting place in the contemporary rock landscape with a concise and readily identifiable discography.
