Shinedown

Formed in the early 2000s in Jacksonville, Florida, Shinedown centers on singer Brent Smith, accompanied by drummer Barry Kerch, bassist Eric Bass and guitarist Zach Myers. The band plays powerful rock that mixes hard rock, post-grunge and melodic metal influences, with a strong emphasis on sung choruses and guitar-driven ballads. After Brent Smith signed with Atlantic Records, Shinedown recorded Leave a Whisper in 2003 and Us and Them in 2005, which established them on the American rock scene with a blend of high-energy tracks and covers like “Simple Man.” The Sound of Madness (2008) and Amaryllis (2012) mark a move toward a bigger, arena-ready sound, while Threat to Survival (2015) and Attention Attention (2018) dig into themes of resilience, mental health and inner conflict, often presented live in sets alternating electric songs and acoustic versions. With Planet Zero (2022), Shinedown addresses social and technological questions while retaining their melodic touch and a straightforward song format built for regular touring in North America and Europe.
