Finger Eleven
Born out of the rock scene in Burlington, Ontario, Finger Eleven formed in the early 1990s around Scott Anderson, James Black, Rick Jackett, and Sean Anderson, initially under the name Rainbow Butt Monkeys. This first phase yielded the album Letters from Chutney in 1995, marked by an alternative sound tinged with funk and metal. The name change to Finger Eleven came with a shift toward a darker, more structured brand of rock at the crossroads of alternative rock, post-grunge, and hard rock. The band released Tip in 1997, followed by The Greyest of Blue Skies in 2000, which established Finger Eleven on North American stages. The self-titled Finger Eleven in 2003 put greater emphasis on melody and on contrasts between massive guitars, driving rhythms, and more atmospheric passages—an approach extended with Them vs. You vs. Me in 2007 and Life Turns Electric in 2010. With Five Crooked Lines in 2015, Finger Eleven further honed a balance between heavy energy, catchy choruses, and more modern touches, while remaining firmly rooted in Canadian alternative rock.
