Chevelle

Formed in the mid-1990s in a northern suburb of Chicago, Chevelle brings together brothers Pete Loeffler on vocals and guitar and Sam Loeffler on drums in a trio format, with bass duties handled successively by Joe Loeffler and then Dean Bernardini. Hailing from Grayslake, Illinois, Chevelle fits within the American alternative rock and alternative metal scenes, producing a sound that blends heavy riffs, mid‑tempo grooves, melodic vocal lines and a pronounced use of dynamics between restrained verses and saturated choruses. After their debut album Point #1 (1999), the band broadened its audience with Wonder What’s Next (2002), then honed a writing style that is both direct and sombre on This Type of Thinking (Could Do Us In) (2004) and Vena Sera (2007). Chevelle continued along this path between melodic hard rock and heavier, more atmospheric textures with Sci‑Fi Crimes (2009), Hats Off to the Bull (2011), La Gárgola (2014) and The North Corridor (2016), while remaining centered on the power‑trio format. With NIRATIAS (2021), Chevelle introduced more science‑fiction themes and a more conceptual dimension to their lyrics, while retaining an aesthetic dominated by distorted guitars, compact rhythms and vocals that oscillate between contained tension and more aggressive flights.
