Seether
Formed in Pretoria, South Africa, in the late 1990s under the name Saron Gas, Seether gradually established themselves on the international rock scene with a sound situated between post-grunge, hard rock and alternative metal. Built around singer-guitarist Shaun Morgan and bassist Dale Stewart—later joined by drummer John Humphrey and guitarist Corey Lowery—the band quickly moved from South Africa to the United States, where they signed with Wind-up Records and permanently adopted the name Seether. After an initial local release, Fragile (2000), the band gained notice with Disclaimer (2002) and then Disclaimer II (2004), which reworked and reorganized the original material and included a new version of "Broken" recorded as a duet with Amy Lee. Seether followed with Karma and Effect (2005) and Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces (2007), confirming a style that blends saturated guitars, straightforward melodic structures and introspective lyrics. The albums Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray (2011), Isolate and Medicate (2014), Poison the Parish (2017) and Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum (2020) continue this direction while occasionally incorporating slower, more atmospheric elements. Present on North American and European rock festival stages, Seether maintains a steady touring presence and remains rooted in a register where the electric tension of the riffs is central.
