Teitur

Born in Hoyvík in the Faroe Islands in 1977, Teitur Lassen gradually established himself on the Nordic and then the international scene under the name Teitur, with a repertoire that blends folk, acoustic pop and intimate songwriting. After a period in Denmark in the late 1990s, Teitur wrote for other artists before refocusing on his own material and releasing his debut album, “Poetry & Aeroplanes,” in 2003, noted for its spare arrangements and highly melodic English songwriting. “Stay Under the Stars” (2006) and “The Singer” (2008) reinforced this approach centered on voice, guitar and touches of piano and strings, while “Story Music” (2013) and “I Want to Be Kind” (2018) allowed greater space for choirs and broader orchestration. Teitur alternates songs in English and in Faroese, often draws on everyday stories and the landscapes of his home archipelago, and performs mainly solo or in small ensembles, in intimate venues, at Scandinavian festivals and on tours in Europe and North America. Across his records and numerous collaborations as a songwriter, Teitur has developed a restrained aesthetic focused on lyrics, timbre and calm atmospheres that firmly places him within contemporary folk-pop.
