Grant-Lee Phillips
Born in Stockton, California, Grant-Lee Phillips emerged on the Los Angeles indie scene in the late 1980s with Shiva Burlesque, before forming the trio Grant Lee Buffalo in 1991 with Joey Peters and Paul Kimble. During the 1990s he developed a blend of alternative rock, folk rock, Americana and country rock, characterized by narrative songwriting, prominent acoustic guitars and a voice capable of moving from hushed tones to more taut lines. This period includes the albums Fuzzy (1993), Mighty Joe Moon (1994), Copperopolis (1996) and Jubilee (1998). After the band's split, Grant-Lee Phillips launched a solo career in the early 2000s and shifted toward a more stripped-down approach focused on the song, acoustic arrangements and a more intimate take on American rock. His solo discography includes, among others, Ladies’ Love Oracle (2000), Mobilize (2001), Virginia Creeper (2004), Strangelet (2007), Walking in the Green Corn (2012), The Narrows (2016), Widdershins (2018), Lightning, Show Us Your Stuff (2020) and All That You Can Dream (2022). He has also collaborated with Robyn Hitchcock and had a recurring role as a troubadour on the television series Gilmore Girls.
