Robert Hood

Active since the early 1990s in Detroit, Robert Hood belongs to the second wave of American techno as a DJ, producer and co‑founder of the collective Underground Resistance alongside Jeff Mills and Mike Banks. After his beginnings within this militant formation, Hood launched his label M‑Plant in 1994, which became the principal platform for his vision of a stripped‑down techno centered on rhythm, minimal textures and a repeating tension. Albums such as “Minimal Nation” (1994), “Internal Empire” (1994) and “Omega” (2010), as well as “Motor: Nighttime World 3” (2012), established an aesthetic often described as minimal techno, rooted in Detroit’s heritage but marked by an introspective, spiritual dimension. At the same time Hood developed several aliases, including Floorplan, a project oriented toward house, gospel and disco that he runs notably with his daughter Lyric Hood, and Monobox, which pursues a more experimental abstraction. Regularly appearing in clubs and at festivals across Europe, the United States and beyond, Robert Hood alternates between studio productions, DJ performances and a personal commitment connected to his faith that permeates part of his musical output.
