James Ruskin
Active in London since the mid-1990s, James Ruskin is part of the British techno current with a restrained, taut approach built on dry loops, tight percussion and dark textures that intersect minimalism, industrial tension and a dub legacy. In 1996 he co-founded the Blueprint Records label with Richard Polson, a structure associated with a functional, stripped-down aesthetic within the English techno scene. Alongside his own maxi singles, Ruskin has developed several collaborative projects—most notably O/V/R with Regis and The Fear Ratio with Mark Broom—which extend his work into more abrasive, hypnotic or experimental forms. As a DJ he plays clubs and specialist festivals across Europe, favouring selections focused on progression, rhythm and density rather than effects. His trajectory remains tied to long-form techno conceived for mixing, where groove precision and an economy of means are central.
