MUNA

Formed in Los Angeles in 2013 by Katie Gavin, Josette Maskin and Naomi McPherson, MUNA crafts a melodic yet nervy band-pop that sits between indie pop, synth-pop, electropop and darker pop shades. The trio met at the University of Southern California and released the EP More Perfect in 2014, followed by Loudspeaker in 2016, before their debut album About U arrived in 2017. MUNA then honed a direct songwriting style focused on relationships, identity and emotional tensions, featuring pop hooks, bright guitars and restrained electronic production. After 2019’s Saves the World the group left RCA and signed to Saddest Factory, the label founded by Phoebe Bridgers; in 2021 they collaborated with Bridgers on the single Silk Chiffon. Their third album, Muna, was released in 2022 and marks a sunnier approach without sacrificing the trio’s melodic precision. Onstage, MUNA has toured with Harry Styles, Phoebe Bridgers, Kacey Musgraves, Lorde and Taylor Swift while continuing to headline their own tours. In 2024 the band issued the live album Live at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, documenting this rise as a live act.
