Jensen McRae
Between intimate folk and alternative pop, Jensen McRae develops songwriting focused on personal storytelling and social observation. Based in Los Angeles, the American singer-songwriter works in the tradition of acoustic songwriters, favouring sparse arrangements in which guitar and piano support a prominently featured voice. She began releasing her first songs in the late 2010s and attracted attention on streaming platforms and social media for lyrics about relationships, mental health, race and everyday life in California. Trained at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, she has refined a sound at the intersection of indie folk and melancholic pop, marked by detailed narrative writing. Her debut album, Are You Happy Now?, released in 2022, gathers this work into tracks with classic structures that prioritise melodic clarity and understated production. On stage she mainly appears in small and mid-size venues across the US and the UK, in settings ranging from solo shows to opening slots, extending in live performance the intimacy already present on her recordings.
