Mount Kimbie
Emerging in London in the late 2000s around the duo Dominic Maker and Kai Campos, Mount Kimbie initially belonged to the British post-dubstep scene while developing a broader approach that spans minimal electronics, ambient textures, garage-derived rhythms and fragmented pop songwriting. Early EPs — including Maybes (2008) and Sketch on Glass (2009) — established a language of cut-up loops, silences and restrained sonic material, continued on the album Crooks & Lovers (2010). With Cold Spring Fault Less Youth (2013), Mount Kimbie widened its scope by adding more vocals, bass, guitar and a band-like dynamic, entering into a more direct dialogue with indie and experimental scenes. That evolution continued on Love What Survives (2017), notably through collaborations with King Krule, James Blake and Micachu, and on The Sunset Violent (2024), where the band further emphasizes the intersection of electronic music, rock and songwriting. Both on stage and in the studio, Mount Kimbie has thus shifted its center of gravity from a deconstructed club aesthetic toward a more organic form, without abandoning its London roots or its writing based on nuance and space.
