Gold Panda
Born in London in 1980 as Derwin Schlecker and raised in Chelmsford, Essex, Gold Panda emerged in the late 2000s with delicate, fragmented electronic music sitting between IDM, micro‑house, ambient, glitch and folktronica. After early releases in 2009, including the Miyamae EP and Quitter’s Raga, he gained attention for short tracks, staccato rhythms and the use of melodic loops often tinged with Asian influences, nourished notably by a two‑year stay in Japan. Discovered early via MySpace, he produced a remix for Bloc Party before joining Ghostly International, which released his debut album Lucky Shiner in 2010, followed by the compilation Companion and his DJ‑Kicks mix in 2011. With Half of Where You Live in 2013, Gold Panda shifted his writing toward a more urban, nocturnal sound, continued on Good Luck and Do Your Best in 2016 — a record marked by more introspective textures — and later on The Work in 2022. In studio and live, Gold Panda moves between live formats, club settings and festivals, favoring rhythmic precision, subdued atmospheres and instrumental compositions that are at once mobile and restrained.
