Niro

Born in Rome in 1978 under the name Davide Combusti, The Niro has since the early 2000s developed a career situated between folk, rock and acoustic pop, with writing initially largely in English and then also in Italian. After playing in several lineups on the Roman scene, he launched in 2002 a group project which he would later keep as the name for his solo career. Discovered in London in 2007, he released the EP An Ordinary Man in 2008 and the album The Niro the same year, before Best Wishes in 2010 and The Ship in 2012, in a vein of muted guitars, melancholic melodies and sober arrangements. The Niro then shared the stage with artists from indie, folk and rock backgrounds, and also collaborated on external projects, notably Anti Atlas. In 2014, his participation in the Sanremo Festival with 1969 marks a clearer shift toward Italian, confirmed by the album 1969 released the same year. Parallel, The Niro works for cinema and composes or performs music for several soundtracks. In 2019, he records with Gary Lucas The Complete Jeff Buckley and Gary Lucas Songbook, dedicated to songs written by Jeff Buckley and Gary Lucas. More recently, The Niro published Un mondo perfetto in 2023, continuing an intimate writing with folk rock contours.
