Alonzo

Hailing from the northern districts of Marseille, rapper Alonzo, born in 1982 to a family of Comorian origin, first made his mark within the group Psy 4 de la Rime, active from the late 1990s on the Marseille scene alongside Soprano, Vincenzo, and DJ Sya Styles. With Alonzo, the collective popularized a French rap rooted in urban storytelling, blending introspection, snapshots of life in the housing estates, and social commentary. In parallel with Psy 4 de la Rime, from the late 2000s Alonzo developed a solo career, steering his writing toward a blend of rap, trap, and Afro-urban sounds, combining melodic hooks with more technically demanding passages. Albums such as “Les temps modernes” (2010), “Amour, gloire & cité” (2012), and “Règlement de comptes” (2015) mark different stages of this trajectory, spanning narrative pieces and more party-oriented tracks. Alonzo multiplies collaborations with other Francophone artists, remains tied to the Marseille scene while broadening his audience, and continues across projects to explore recurring themes such as family, loyalty, social mobility, and the contrasts between success and neighborhood realities.
