Kalash

Born in Strasbourg in 1988 and raised in Martinique, Kalash developed an early interest in reggae and dancehall driven by the island’s sound systems, before steering his writing toward rap through contact with the French urban scene. A Martinican artist moving between Creole, French, and sometimes English, Kalash forges a style that blends Caribbean rhythms, slow trap, Auto-Tuned singing, and rapped passages, with lyrics that address street life, intimacy, spirituality, and a deep connection to the Caribbean. After several releases and collaborations within the Antillean dancehall scene, Kalash gained greater recognition in the mid-2010s, notably alongside Booba, which cemented his place in the Francophone rap landscape. The studio albums Kaos (2016), Mwaka Moon (2017), Diamond Rock (2019), and Tombolo (2022) mark different stages of this trajectory, ranging from club-oriented cuts to more melodic tracks and songs firmly rooted in Martinique. Active on stages across the Antilles, in major venues in France, and at rap and urban music festivals, Kalash holds a singular position, linking Caribbean culture, French rap, and reggae heritage within a single artistic vision.
