Emmure
Formed in 2003 in New Fairfield, Connecticut and later based in Queens, New York, the project Emmure develops a metalcore infused with deathcore and nu metal, centered around the voice of Frankie Palmeri, the sole permanent member of a frequently changing lineup. Emmure is distinguished by breakdown-heavy structures, repetitive, dissonant riffs, and a hip-hop-influenced sense of rhythm, with lyrics that blend personal experiences, everyday violence, and numerous references to pop culture and video games. After early days in the local hardcore scene and a self-released debut EP, the band signed with Victory Records and issued its first full-length, Goodbye to the Gallows, in 2007, followed by The Respect Issue in 2008 and Felony in 2009, which established Emmure on international metalcore circuits. The albums Speaker of the Dead (2011), Slave to the Game (2012), and Eternal Enemies (2014) extended this aggressive, repetitive aesthetic, marked by a highly percussive sound and a strong emphasis on mosh parts. Beginning with Look at Yourself in 2017, released on SharpTone Records, Emmure incorporated more nu metal elements and electronic atmospheres, a direction continued with Hindsight in 2020. The band tours regularly across North America and Europe, alternating club headlining shows with appearances at specialized festivals, anchoring Emmure within the network of contemporary metalcore and deathcore acts.
