Eluveitie

From the Zurich area and active since the early 2000s, Eluveitie blends folk metal, melodic death metal and influences from European Celtic cultures. Started in 2002 by musician Chrigel Glanzmann as a studio project, Eluveitie quickly became a full band built around a mixture of harsh vocals and clean singing, aggressive guitars and arrangements featuring fiddle, flutes, bagpipes and hurdy-gurdy. After an initial step with the EP Vên in 2003, the band released Spirit in 2006 and Slania in 2008, which broadened the reach of their style. Eluveitie then alternated between acoustic-leaning records centered on traditional instruments, such as Evocation I: The Arcane Dominion (2009) and Evocation II: Pantheon (2017), and more metal-oriented albums, notably Everything Remains (As It Never Was) (2010), Helvetios (2012), Origins (2014) and Ategnatos (2019). Driven by lyrics in English and reconstructed Gaulish and nourished by ancient history and mythology, Eluveitie plays club and festival stages across Europe and North America, despite regular lineup changes around the core founded by Glanzmann.
