Alestorm

Formed in the mid-2000s in Perth, Scotland, Alestorm plays pirate-themed metal that blends power metal, folk metal and sing-along choruses reminiscent of drinking songs. Originally called Battleheart before permanently adopting the name Alestorm, the band drew attention on the European metal scene with the album "Captain Morgan’s Revenge" (2008), quickly followed by "Black Sails at Midnight" (2009) and "Back Through Time" (2011), which established its universe of naval battles, treasure and revelry. Alestorm refined this approach on "Sunset on the Golden Age" (2014) and "No Grave but the Sea" (2017), incorporating more keyboards, choirs and pop-leaning melodies while retaining a fast rhythmic foundation and guitars marked by power metal. With "Curse of the Crystal Coconut" (2020) and "Seventh Rum of a Seventh Rum" (2022), Alestorm continued a discography centered on a deliberately offbeat and festive tone, supported by regular tours and a steady presence at major international metal events.
