Korpiklaani

Formed in Lahti, Finland, around Jonne Järvelä, Korpiklaani extends a path begun in 1993 under the names Shamaani Duo and then Shaman, before adopting its current identity in 2003. This trajectory explains Korpiklaani's singularity in folk metal: the band initially arose from a folk base, marked by Sámi elements, and gradually integrated heavy metal, adding violin, accordion and melodies inspired by Finnish traditions, humppa and Nordic dance music. Korpiklaani's sound rests on direct rhythms, fairly dry metal guitar, collective choruses and a strong presence of acoustic instruments, with lyrics often linked to nature, folk tales and festive scenes. After Spirit of the Forest in 2003, Korpiklaani followed with a steady discography including Voice of Wilderness in 2005, Tales Along This Road in 2006, Tervaskanto in 2007, Korven Kuningas in 2008, Karkelo in 2009, Ukon Wacka in 2011, Manala in 2012, Noita in 2015, Kulkija in 2018, Jylhä in 2021 and Rankarumpu in 2024. Habituated to European metal and folk stages as well as major international festivals, Korpiklaani operates as a seasoned live band, propelled by Järvelä's voice and by a constant balance between metal energy and traditional arrangements.
