Élodie Frégé

From Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire in Nièvre, Élodie Frégé came to public attention in 2003 when she won the third season of the television show Star Academy. This launched a singing career blending French chanson, pop and retro influences. Her eponymous debut album was released in 2004 and still bore the marks of mainstream variety; her writing then moved toward a more intimate, cinematic register with Le Jeu des 7 erreurs in 2006, made notably with Benjamin Biolay. La Fille de l’après‑midi (2010) and Amuse-bouches (2013) continued this approach with subdued arrangements, jazz and bossa nova accents and references to 1960s chanson, with particular attention to texts in French. Alongside her studio recordings she performs regularly on stage, takes part in collective projects and revisits francophone repertoire from Gainsbourg to more recent pop. Active also as an actress for film and television and present on several entertainment shows and talent-program panels in France, she has built a career at the intersection of popular music, singer-songwriter songcraft and media activities.
