Bénabar
Bénabar, born Bruno Nicolini, is a French singer-songwriter and performer who emerged in the early 2000s with a narrative style rooted in everyday life, shaped by observation, humour and careful attention to detail. He became known with the album Bénabar (2001), propelled by the song Le Dîner, and consolidated his reputation with Les Risques du métier (2003) and Reprise des négociations (2005), which firmly established him in the landscape of French song. He went on to release Infréquentable (2008), Les Bénéfices du doute (2011), Inspiré de faits réels (2014), Le Début de la suite (2018) and Indocile heureux (2021). Bénabar has built a repertoire where domestic scenes, character sketches, subtle sarcasm and absurd situations mix with often rich orchestration — between pop, light jazz and touches of swing. He is also a respected live artist, where acting, storytelling and direct address to the audience are central. With Bénabar, the song becomes narrative, chronicle and staging of reality, carried by a sense of tempo, well-drawn characters and dialogue integrated into the music.
