Liane Foly

Born in Lyon in 1962 into a family of Franco‑Algerian origin, Liane Foly began very young in the family orchestra and on regional stages before being noticed in the mid‑1980s by composer André Manoukian, with whom she launched her recording career. Established in the French pop/variety scene from the album «Rêve orange» (1988), Liane Foly developed a repertoire at the crossroads of chanson, jazz, blues and pop, marked by a strong taste for swing, scat and orchestral arrangements. The albums «Au fur et à mesure» (1990) and «Les petites notes» (1993) confirmed this aesthetic—mixing ballads, more uptempo tracks and American influences—while «Caméléon» (2002) and «Le Goût du désir» (2008) continued her exploration of sophisticated, soul‑tinged songs. Alongside her studio work she has toured extensively, performed in theatres with shows combining songs and impersonations, and appeared regularly on television. With «Crooneuse» (2016) she returned to a repertoire of standards and French‑ and English‑language covers in a crooner spirit, consolidating her position between vocal jazz and French chanson.
