Just Mustard
Originally from Dundalk, Ireland, Just Mustard has emerged as one of the most singular bands on today’s rock scene. Built around Katie Ball (vocals), David Noonan and Mete Kalyoncuoğlu (guitars), Robert Hodgers Clarke (bass) and Shane Maguire (drums), the quintet has shaped a sound at the intersection of shoegaze, trip-hop and post‑rock. After Wednesday (2018) and Heart Under (2022, Partisan Records), the band continues its evolution with We Were Just Here, a third album that marks a turning point. Where Heart Under explored melancholy and a sense of suffocation within dense, industrial soundscapes, We Were Just Here opens onto a new clarity. The guitars remain distorted, the basses abyssal and the sound design bold, but a brighter, more euphoric energy unfolds, while Katie Ball’s ethereal voice hovers above a universe that is both hypnotic and visceral, confirming Just Mustard as a group capable of reconciling brutality, emotion and grace.
