The Twilight Sad
Formed in Kilsyth, Scotland, The Twilight Sad inhabit an indie rock vein that blends post‑punk, shoegaze and noise rock, driven by a strong interplay of saturated guitars, dark keyboards and vocals with a pronounced Scottish accent. The band emerged in the mid‑2000s around James Graham and Andy MacFarlane and was picked up by FatCat Records, which released their debut album Fourteen Autumns & Fifteen Winters in 2007, followed by Forget the Night Ahead (2009) and No One Can Ever Know (2012), the latter marked by a greater emphasis on electronic textures. With Nobody Wants to Be Here and Nobody Wants to Leave (2014), The Twilight Sad combined sonic density with more direct melodies, before joining Rock Action, Mogwai’s label, for It Won’t Be Like This All the Time (2019), an album with darker, more synthetic hues. On stage the band developed across the UK indie circuit as well as in Europe and North America, touring with acts such as Mogwai and The Cure — a collaboration that boosted their international profile and situated The Twilight Sad within a landscape where post‑punk heritage, introspective lyricism and noise energy intersect.
