shame
Active since the mid-2010s, shame hail from south London and are part of the British post-punk revival, with an energy close to the Windmill scene in Brixton. The five-piece combines angular guitars, a taut rhythm section and vocals that oscillate between spoken word and restrained screams, with lyrics marked by social observation and a kind of ironic disenchantment. Signed to Dead Oceans, the band released their debut album Songs of Praise in 2018, which established a direct, frontal and raw sound, then broadened their scope with Drunk Tank Pink in 2021, featuring more fragmented structures, rhythmic ruptures and a more introspective dimension. In 2023, Food for Worms emphasised songwriting geared more toward the collective, with tracks where shame give greater space to melodies and an almost live group dynamic. Accustomed to intensive touring across Europe and North America, shame builds their identity between intimate clubs, festivals and small venues where proximity to the audience remains central.
