Water From Your Eyes
Formed in the mid-2010s in Chicago and later based in Brooklyn, the duo Water From Your Eyes brings together composer-producer Nate Amos and singer-lyricist Rachel Brown. Operating in a hybrid space between experimental pop, indie rock, post-punk, and slowed-down dance music, Water From Your Eyes crafts songs built on repetition, collage, and the interplay among abrasive guitars, mechanical rhythms, and poised, understated vocals. After early self-produced records with a more lo-fi aesthetic, their discography revolves around Long Days, No Dreams (2017), All a Dance (2018), and Somebody Else’s Song (2019), followed by the long-form 33:44 (2020), where the duo pushes extended structures even further. With Structure (2021), released by Wharf Cat Records, Water From Your Eyes refines a vocabulary of minimalist motifs, abrupt shifts, and vocals often bordering on spoken delivery, before joining Matador for Everyone’s Crushed (2023), an album that strengthens their presence on the international independent scene. Active in DIY circuits as well as on more established tours, Water From Your Eyes maintains a constant back-and-forth between pop songwriting, sonic experimentation, and a discreet sense of humor in the lyrics.
