Sevendust

Active since 1994 in Atlanta, Georgia, Sevendust emerged from the wake of 1990s American alternative metal by blending heavy metal, hard rock and nu-metal accents, with songwriting centered on massive riffs, syncopated rhythms and the alternation between aggressive tension and melodic choruses. The quintet, led by Lajon Witherspoon’s vocals alongside Clint Lowery, John Connolly, Vince Hornsby and Morgan Rose, quickly found its place on the American rock and metal scene with Sevendust in 1997, then Home in 1999 and Animosity in 2001 — three records that established a dense yet accessible sound marked as much by groove metal’s energy as by a post‑grunge sensibility. Over the years Sevendust has evolved this base without sharp ruptures, at times hardening the approach on Seasons (2003), Alpha (2007) or Cold Day Memory (2010), while also exploring a more acoustic side on Time Travelers & Bonfires (2014). The band’s trajectory also includes some temporary lineup changes, notably around Clint Lowery, before returning to a tightened formation. Remaining active on major North American rock and metal stages, Sevendust continued their discography with All I See Is War (2018), Blood & Stone (2020) and Truth Killer (2023).
