Tyla

Born in Edenvale, Gauteng, and raised in east Johannesburg, Tyla has been developing English-language pop since 2019, drawing on amapiano, contemporary R&B and touches of afrobeats. She first attracted attention in South Africa with the single “Getting Late”, produced with Kooldrink, and followed with “Overdue” (2021), “To Last” (2022) and “Been Thinking” (2023), songs that accompanied her move from the local scene to a more international circuit. In 2023 “Water” marked a step change: its supple, amapiano-derived rhythm and pop format made it the first single by a South African solo artist to enter the Billboard Hot 100 in 55 years. Tyla then opened for Chris Brown in Europe and the United States, appeared on international television shows and continued collaborations, notably with Ayra Starr, Lisa, Gunna and Damiano David. Her debut album, Tyla, was released in 2024, followed the same year by an expanded edition featuring “Push 2 Start”. In 2025 Tyla released the EP WWP, also presented under the title We Wanna Party, while continuing to perform at festivals, on global pop stages and in danceable R&B formats.
