Doja Cat
Born in Los Angeles in 1995, Doja Cat—whose real name is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini—emerged at the intersection of hip-hop, pop, and R&B within the early-2010s online scene, where her first tracks circulated on sharing platforms. Spotted by the Kemosabe/RCA label, Doja Cat released the EP “Purrr!” in 2014, establishing a style that blends melodic rap, pop vocal lines, and productions with electronic and soul influences. Her debut album, “Amala,” in 2018 marked a more structured phase, soon followed by the offbeat single “Mooo!”, which drew heightened attention to her visual world and humorous streak. With “Hot Pink” in 2019, Doja Cat honed a pop-rap and R&B palette, alternating dance-oriented cuts with slower tracks while multiplying collaborations with artists from U.S. rap and pop. The 2021 album “Planet Her” continued this hybridization of trap, R&B, Afro-pop, and electronic textures, strengthening Doja Cat’s presence on major international stages. In 2023, “Scarlet” pivoted more squarely toward rap, with more forthright writing and darker production, confirming her ability to shift her aesthetic while remaining instantly recognizable.
