Moliy

Born in Accra, Moliy, whose full name is Moliy Ama Montgomery, has charted a path between Ghana and the United States that feeds a music at the crossroads of Afrobeats, alté, Afro-fusion and dancehall. Active since 2020, Moliy emerged with the EP Wondergirl, released that same year, before continuing with Honey Doom in 2022. Her writing leans on flexible pop formats, Afro-Caribbean rhythms and a singing style that alternates melodic softness, nonchalance and more direct hooks. Moliy rose to international prominence in 2021 with her participation in Amaarae's 'Sad Girlz Luv Money', in a version featuring Kali Uchis that significantly broadened her audience and placed her in an Afropop scene open to flows between West Africa, the United States and the Caribbean. The rest of her journey confirms this transnational dimension, with occasional collaborations and anchoring as much in Afropop circuits as in more hybrid aesthetics. In 2024, Moliy released 'Shake It to the Max (Fly)' with Silent Addy, a track between afrobeats, dancehall and club energy, later relaunched with a remix featuring Shenseea and Skillibeng. In a few years Moliy has thus built a repertoire centered on short, rhythmic and highly mobile songs, between diasporic pop, light R&B vocals and a dancing pulse.
