Summer Walker
Rooted in Atlanta’s R&B scene, singer-songwriter Summer Walker has been developing a sound since the late 2010s that blends contemporary R&B, neo‑soul and trap influences. Born in Atlanta in 1996, she first gained attention by posting covers and original tracks online before joining the LVRN collective and label, affiliated with Interscope. She broke through with the mixtape Last Day of Summer (2018), characterized by introspective songwriting focused on romantic relationships, emotional vulnerability and issues of trust. Her debut studio album Over It (2019) established Walker in a melodic, minimalist R&B vein, drawing on 1990s references and collaborations with several hip‑hop and R&B figures. The EP Life on Earth (2020) and her second album Still Over It (2021) continued this aesthetic, with a greater emphasis on slow atmospheres, layered vocals and highly personal storytelling. With CLEAR (2019) and CLEAR 2: SOFT LIFE (2023), Summer Walker explores a sparer side—closer to soul and live‑band arrangements—while maintaining a direct, intimate songwriting centered on emotional contradictions.
