Chris Brown
Born in Tappahannock, Virginia, in 1989, Chris Brown emerged in the mid-2000s with an R&B sound that blends pop, hip-hop and contemporary soul—crafted as much for radio as for the club. His debut album, Chris Brown, was released in 2005, followed by Exclusive in 2007, which expanded his palette toward more electronic, dance-oriented productions. Over the years Brown has steered his repertoire between slow jams, dancefloor-ready tracks and more overtly rap-driven songs, in conversation with the American R&B and hip-hop scenes. F.A.M.E. (2011), X (2014), Heartbreak on a Full Moon (2017), Indigo (2019), Breezy (2022) and 11:11 (2023) punctuate a prolific discography, marked by a taste for long formats and frequent collaborations with artists from rap, R&B and afropop. His music rests on supple vocal melodies, pronounced rhythms and a constant alternation between singing and rap phrasing, in an aesthetic that has tracked the transformations of American R&B since the 2000s.
