6lack
Born in Baltimore and raised in Atlanta, 6lack (pronounced "black") emerged in the mid-2010s with introspective songwriting at the crossroads of alternative R&B, hip-hop and trap — often restrained, melancholic and focused on personal relationships. After a difficult initial stint in the industry, 6lack joined the Spillage Village collective around the Atlanta scene and later signed with Love Renaissance and Interscope. His breakthrough came in 2016 with the single "Prblms" and the album Free 6lack, where his near-spoken vocal delivery, stretched choruses and nocturnal productions established an immediately recognizable identity. 6lack continued in this vein with East Atlanta Love Letter in 2018, a broader record that fused contemporary R&B with Southern rap, followed by the EP 6pc Hot in 2020. At the same time he increased collaborations without straying from his universe — with Khalid and Ty Dolla Sign on "OTW", Gorillaz and Elton John on "The Pink Phantom", and Lil Tjay on "Calling My Phone". In 2023, Since I Have a Lover marked a move toward a warmer, more organic sound while retaining the vocal restraint and emotional precision that shape 6lack's music.
