Saya Gray
Born in Toronto in 1995, Saya Gray grew up in a musical environment shaped by teaching, instrumental practice and a Japanese and Scottish-Canadian family heritage. After early stints in the house band of a Jamaican Pentecostal church and in the Quincy Bullen Band, Saya Gray first established herself as a touring bassist—notably with Daniel Caesar—while also working as musical director for Willow Smith and bassist for Liam Payne. Having lived at various times in Toronto, London and Japan, she began releasing her own music in 2019 and developed a personal project within the realm of alternative pop, with songwriting that blends song formats, structural breaks, clear melodic lines and a marked attention to rhythm. Her discography centers on the album 19 Masters (2022), the EPs QWERTY (2023) and QWERTY II (2024), and the album Saya (2025). Across this trajectory, Saya Gray channels her experience as a live musician and an approach to pop that remains fluid in both form and references.
